Minkerts in St.Louis

This is a long shot because the name is rather rare but I am looking for information on William Minkert 1810-1866 who lived in St. Louis in 1850 along with his teen aged son William Henry. Back in New York in 1840 William had a wife, 2 toddler daughters, a mother-in-law and a sister-in-law but somehow all the women are lost ten years later. The in-laws were named A. and H. Wallbaum. Another puzzle is that there is another William Minkert who lived in St. Louis at the same time but is a different age and occupation. (My William was a cabinet maker. The other was a laborer.) Any ideas?

Here is a marriage record. William Minkert and Sophie Harthousen 22nd November 1849. St. Louis Missouri.

I did receive an answer. However I have seen that record before and determined that it isn't likely to be my ancestor since his experience conflicts with what I know. Maybe he's a cousin.

A suggestion would be to use the FamilySearch Wiki pages for the St. Louis county and see if you find anywhere you can obtain a marriage certificate or other vital statistics record for your family. There is a record kept for some pre-1909 records and they are available on micro-film:

1. Visit the Missouri State Archives: The Missouri State Archives maintains this database, which is an abstract of records available on microfilm.
2. Use the Pre-1910 Birth and Death Records Database: Search the database for the individual's name and birth date.
3. Note that pre-1910 records are not always comprehensive: Civil registration was not required before 1910, so some records may not exist or may be incomplete. 

Most records before 1910 were kept at the county level and should be searched at the local court houses.
