invitees can't see my group tree, just group chat
I've followed the instructions, set up my family group tree, and invited group members. But they can still only see their version of the tree, not mine.

I had that issue too. You have to go into the invite section and re-invite them with a new link. When they click on the link and login, they have the option to opt into the family group tree and to associate themselves with a person on the tree. The invite link is important because you can invite them as a specific person on the tree and it helps them connect their profile to the tree.
