Please forgive my ignorance, but how do I access the Full Text feature?

There are a couple of ways for you to do that. Either click on this link to get into the Labs landing page: https://www.familysearch.org/en/labs/. Or from FamilySearch on the homepage, scroll down until you see the image below on the right size of the page, and click on "View Experiments". You will see the Full Text Search Lab to try there.
