Family of Gerhard Neuhausen Borbeck Gerschede

I am looking for any information on the family of Gerhard Neuhausen born March 1842. I cannot find his paperwork when he came to United States in 1881-82. He was a miner in Ohio.

There is no mention of his parents or family.

He was married to Petronella Spittman

He is my great great grandfather

Any help is greatly appreciated.

His 1906 passport application lists his place of birth as "Keshel by Goch" and his daughters as Borbek.

The 1900 Census says they immigrated in 1882, both he and his wife.

Yes. He is not listed on paper work as coming with wife and kids. Can find no info on where he came from and where he arrived at.

Ancestry indexes the arrival as Sep 4 1882. I don't know why statueofliberty.org thinks it is Jan 1 1882.

As for his parents, you will need to get to Salt Lake City or have someone there look up his baptism record in their Kessel records.

Is that info only found on ancestry? I don't have that.

Do you know where he entered at in US? I tried Ellis Island but found nothing.

I started with the Statue of Liberty site and found the family right away but couldn't find the father (their search function isn't user friendly, it doesn't deal with mispellings and misindexing well).

So I tried ancestry and found the family again but noticed that the kids last names were misindexed as Neuhauser even though it's clearly Neuhaus. So I tried Neuhauser for the father and he popped right up. I'm sure it's him because he's the right age, right country or origin, right month, right year, right ship (Reuter in his 1906 passport app vs Ruyter), right surname. Everything matches his arrival info in his passport application except first initial J vs G but I can easily see him saying his name as "G Neuhaus" and the scribe writing J Neuhaus.

I just now checked on ancestry for "Neuhauser" and his record is there too.

When you search, you really have to try to guess the many ways a name can be mispelled and misread/misindexed.

They all entered at the port of New York. That would have been Castle Garden in 1882.

Edit: I see someone added the September 1882 immigration record to son Gerhard but didn't go into the record and attach the other family members.
