Translation Request
Hi,
I am looking for help with this record of the christening of Martin Carl Christlieb Behling. The translation given states that he was born on 23 August 1884 and baptized on 3 September 1884. The correct parents, Carl Ludwig Behling and Wilhelmine Elisabeth Drews, are cited. The problem is that Wilhelmine would have been 72 years old by 1884 as she was born in 1812 and married in 1834. I don't read German, but no dates jump out to me on the page. I scrolled back through the previous pages and did not find any dates until I got to page 162 (Martin's record was on page 170.) That page states Birth Records 1843. I would appreciate it if you could read Martin's record and see if the 1884 year is correct. I am inclined to think it isn't because the last of the previously identified children of Carl & Wilhelmine was born in 1845. They already have a son by the name of Martin Carl Christlieb who was born in 1843. He lived until 1900, so it seems doubtful that they would have two sons by the same name. Thank you for any help you can provide.

There is nothing on the image provided that gives a year for any entry, only day and month of birth and baptism. You've already gone back a few pages to get a year of 1843. Now go forward a few pages to see if the next year is 1844. That should help you confirm the birth year. The record translations provided on various websites are not infallible - this is why it's always good to "trust but verify."
As to having two sons by the same name, it was common to "recycle" a name if the first child of that name died before the second one was born. So don't discount that possibility when researching.

Thank you so much for your very fast response! The year 1844 was a few pages forward so it seems pretty obvious that there was a mistake in listing 1884 as the birth and baptism year. I so appreciate that you searched for a reference to 1884. I knew about the recycling of names, but since the Carl who was recorded as born in 1843 did not die until 1900, I had discounted that.
Thank you for your help!
Joan
