Madison or Lawrence Co Alabama - Land Records ca1820
How were the Cherokee Land distributed in early 1820? I have viewed the Courts Cases from 1824-1830 as well as 1830 census for Lawrence Co. for Henry Farley. ( Other of his siblings as well.)
Did the person just apply for a survey or patent or was there a lottery system like in Georgia?
I searched this group of records, but didn't locate a Farley connected to my family.

I can't seem to locate Tax records for Lawrence Co. I used the Charlotte VA Tax records successfully, but can't locate any for Lawrence County
Thank you for your advice. Virginia Crilley

A Henry Farley patented land in Morgan county in 1850. The registers are not all indexed yet, and a record of the payments for this sale do exist, just not viewable by search yet. However the patent is in the glo records.
You are off by several decades on the Cherokee land.
Congress passed this law on 4 Mar 1842:
"Disposition of Lands in Alabama acquired by the Treaty with the Cherokees. An act to provide for the early disposition of the lands lying in the State of Alabama, acquired from the Cherokee Indians by the treaty of twenty-ninth of December, eighteen hundred and thirty.five. March 4, 1842 ..................................... Vol. V. 470"

Thank you for answering so promptly. The Henry Farley in Morgan Co 1850 is a different person than I was researching. I appreciate your help.
I found this land Patent John T. Farley (Henry's brother): Act of Congress 24 April 1820. I will search for that Act.
