Hello

I was wondering if you could please help with this German Marriage Record for my ancestors Johann Peter Brandt and Adelaide Schwidden? It is a copy from microfilm so the image is not the best. This couple has 2 marriage records on different dates. I believe they had a ceremony in each person's home parish. I included the enlarged photo and the photo of the entire page for reference. This took place in the parish of Bilk on 6 Mar 1796. The 2nd ceremony took place on 10 Mar 1796 in the parish of Hoisten. I am not sure which one is the official date of marriage. Maybe the text will mention it. Thank you Patricia Cook

Yes, the record is hard to read - and it is in Latin. But it is not a marriage record as far as I can see. It does not use the words "matrimonio iuncti sunt" or "copulati sunt" or similar. Here is what I think I can decipher:

Martij 6ta dimissus ad D___ pastorem in Hoisten cis Rhenum Joannes Petrus,

Josephus Brandt sutor, urbani Brandt et Maria Catharina Ratmans(?) 

filius hic oriundus aetatis 26 annos 2 mens 21 dies confugandus(?)

ibidem praevia dispensatione super proclamationibus et tempore

clauso cum Adelheide Schvedens(?) ibidem in __hoven oriunda

aetatis circa 23 annos.

I may have misread some words.

Tentative translation:

On the 6th of March was sent to D___ pastor in Hoisten on the Rhine Johann Peter, son of Joseph Brandt, tailor and resident of Brandt(?), und Maria Catharina Ratmans, residing here, age 26 years, 2 months, and 21 days, to be married(?) there after prior dispensation from proclamation and closed time with Adelheide Schvedens, residing there in ___hoven, age about 23 years.

So this seems to be a note from the parish in Bilk - where Johann Peter resided - that Johann Peter was to be married in Hoisten without any proclamation and within the "closed time" of lent (probably because Adelheid was pregnant).
