A Question about the Poznan Project
Hello,
I was on the Poznan Project website yesterday and noticed the vast amount of territory that is covered. Does anyone know how thorough the group has been with their record collecting?
My second great grandparents were living in the parish of Skulsk in the late 1870's when their first child (I believe him to have been their first) passed away at the age of one. I have searched the website for marriage records for the couple within 30 kms of Skulsk. I have extended the search for the years 1860-1880 and have found no records. I have also done some online searching in the archives throughout local parishes. Should I continue to do my research, or is the fact that the marriage is not indexed on the Poznan Project site an indication that the record may not exist? Thank you and have a good day.
Sincerely,
Stephen Dsida

Hi,
You can have a look on the poznan project website under keyword "contents".
It seem that from the district of Słupca that Skulsk belongs to, no civil registration records where recorded. They are working on - but I think are not finished since it does not have a green check mark - are the catholic records from Skulsk. But there were no records from the year 1877, so if this was the year of the marriage, the records might be not be available, I think.

Hi Christine,
Thank you for your response. You have refreshed my memory. A great many records for the parish have not survived, especially in the 1880s through the end of WWI. I had previously checked the https://www.szukajwarchiwach.gov.pl/ website and saw the same information. I have also been in contact on many occasions with the Archive Office in Poznan.
A couple of years ago, I had found the death record for their son Jan from 1878. The record indicates that he was born in 1877. I have also checked the marriage records for the preceding years, since they are available, and I was not able to find anything. I suppose that the easiest explanation was that they were married in the parish in 1877. I may have found the birth record for my second great grandmother, but it's always nice to find a marriage record for confirmation. Finding the birth record for my second great grandfather will be a challenge.
I also rechecked the Poznan Project website to satisfy my curiosity about their thoroughness. It seems that most, if not all, of the parishes in the vicinity have been indexed in one manner or another. It looks as though they have been very thorough in their research. It is nice to know about the Contents tab - another useful tip with which you have provided me. Thank you again and have a good day.
Sincerely,
Stephen

Hi,
Just a thought - did you check the website basis.famula.pl for possible hints for the birth records of your second great grandfather? I am always amazed at how many entries they have!

I seem to have forgotten about this site. On your advice, I visited the site and found a possible match for a birth record for my second great grandfather, Andrzej Jercha. The DOB seems to fit, and the location is not far from Skulsk. Thank you again.

That's great news. Hope it turns out it's a match!

Steve, you may also check http://slupcagenealogy.com/SearchPg.aspx where they have few records of Jercha people in Slupca, which is about 20 miles from Skulsk. Good luck.
