Am I reading this correctly, that Bernard Hüninghake was born Bernard Gravemeyer? Was it common for men to adopt a different last name in the Damme, Oldenburg area?

Johann Bernard Gravemeyer married into a farm held by a Hüninghake and took that name.

Translation:

Hüninghake, born Gravemeyer, Johann Bernard, cottager in Osterfeine, first married to Engel Hüninghake, later to Engel Oljes; aged 68 years and 6 months. Died of emaciation.
