Best spelling of surname in Liechtenstein records for: Frick/Frickh/Frikh/Frich/Frickin
Is the variation in spelling due to the interpretation by one or more translators, or is there a substantive difference?
As I look through the records for all the variations, the only one that gets the "in" at the end is "Frick," which becomes Frickin, sometimes.
I assume these are Catholic records and therefore they would be in Latin, not German. They are from the 1635-1750-ish timeframe. The images are not available.
Would all the variations sound about the same?
Many thanks,
Elizabeth

There are surnames ending "...in" - but more common (in German speaking regions) is this as extension to the name (like Frick) to indicate a female.
Name spellings have changed over time - so I would not differentiate Frick/Frickh/Frikh. Frich looks less likely and could be a reading error.
Which parish are we talking about?

@WSeelentag
Thank you. The Liechtenstein records list Schaan as the event place. The people I am researching are in the mid- and early 1700s and before. Catharina Frickin married 19 Feb 1737 to Laurentius QUADER.
This name-spelling differentiation is same issue I have with Quader/Quaderer. The indexed records use both spellings. I checked Find a Grave for Schaan listings to see what spelling might have been used on tombstones. They do't have a lot of entries, and they only have newer births. The oldest was a birth in the 1880s. They are all spelled Quaderer. So I don't know which is the best to use in that case either. Both of these family's records are all in Schaan. But I have seen some listings for these surnames in Triesen and Mauren, but only just a couple and not in the family lines I have been researching.
Thank you for your help.

In 1989 a book of "Stammtafeln" was published for Schaan families - the "old" families being Beck, Dünser, Falk, Frick, Frommelt, Hartmann, Hepperger, Hilti, Jehle, Kaiser, Kaufmann, Keckeis, Konrad, Kranz, Lingg, Majer, Quaderer, Rheinberger, Risch, Schierscher, Schlegel, Schreiber, Strub, Tanner, Wachter, Walser, Wanger, Wenaweser, Wille, Bühler, Dürrmayer.
So Quaderer is the (standardised) name you should use - just keep notes of alternative spellings in certain documents.
You could try to contact https://www.schaan.li/kontakte and ask, how to get access to the data you are looking for.
Alternatively: register with https://www.geneal-forum.com/ (free and without obligation), start a new topic on https://www.geneal-forum.com/phpbb/phpBB3/viewforum.php?f=112 for "Quaderer of Schaan", describe what you already know - and ask if anyone could check the book for you.

That is very helpful. And I will follow-up on your suggestions.
There is a "Working Group" that is supposedly creating an online database for genealogy records for Vaduz, Triesen and Schaan. It is supposed to be available sometime in 2024. (Balzers and Mauren having opted out of the project.) There is also a series of books "Vaduzer Familienchronik" but they are not available outside of Europe.
Unfortunately, I am trying to finish writing a family history book this year.
Thank you so much.

There are books like these for all Liechtenstein communities: https://kunden.eye.ch/swissgen/FL/flname-m.htm (some links may be outdated) - but only few online so far. Hence my suggestion to either contact communities or post on geneal-forum (or do both).

@WSeelentag
Just thought I'd share what I found today at the FamilySearch Center in my city. In short, the images do not resolve the spelling issue for Quader or Frich. The two Quader/Quaderer records were very clear and easy to read, except for the mother's name (Bekh?).
Quader/Quaderer:
Maria Elisabetha Quader, b. 1746;
Her father Laurentius Quaderer, b. 1702, son of Christophorus Quaderer and Elisabetha Bekh (?) ;
So her surname is spelled different from her father's. Since it is the official baptism record, I have to go with it as spelled, likewise her father's baptism record rules.
Frich/Frickh:
Catharina Frich, baptism record looks like daughter of Michael Frich and Anna Maria Gsteterin
But her parents marriage record has an accent/character that is not in my Old German Script handout/cheat sheet, a "v" over a letter that looks like a "c". So I will post a translation request:
Catharina's parents marriage record: Michaelem Frickh (?) and Anna Maria Gstetterin.
Thanks for all your help.
