Requiring Advice on How to Find a Marriage Record
Hello,
I was looking at the Poznan Project site and found the following reference:
Records for this year for Skulsk are not available on the Family Search site. I have attempted to get records for the 1880s and 1890s through the Poznan Archive Office and have been extremely unsuccessful. It is my belief that many records for Skulsk for this time period have been lost or destroyed. I have also attempted to contact the local parish but have been unable to receive a response. Does this record still exist since it is listed on the Poznan Project website? If so, does anyone know of a way that I can access this information? Thank you.
Sincerely,
Stephen Dsida

Stephen,
If you click on “original record” in Poznan Project (middle line) you will find the following information where to find the original record of this marriage:
Our database only provides basic information to identify the spouses. There is no liability for the accuracy, as it depends on the quality of the record and the skills of the transcriber. The full information about the marriage can only be found in the original records.
The original record for this marriage is held in the National Archive in Konin, Poland.

I tried to find this marriage record in basia.famula.pl genealogiawarchiwach.pl and szukajwarchiwach but without success. The above email is the only way you can get copy of this record for a reasonable fee.

Hi Maria,
Thank you for your response. I saw the reference that you mentioned. That is why I made the comment about the Archive Office in Poznan. I just reviewed the response that I received when requesting birth records specifically for the years between 1882-1885. The response I received was: "birth certificates from the years 1882-1885 have not survived". I understand that I am now searching for a marriage record, but I am wondering whether marriage records (or death records) survived during that period.
In all, I have made ten requests to the Archive Office in Poznan for the period between the late 1800s and early 1900's. I have only been successful on one of those requests. This is the reason that I have been so unsuccessful in the search for my Polish ancestors. The fee is reasonable (PLN 30), but the costs do add up. I will let you know whether I am successful on my eleventh try. 😀
I have found several more records from Polajewo and Piotrkow that require translation. I will look them over first to see whether I can extract the information myself and to give you a bit of a break. Thank you again and have a good day.
Sincerely,
Stephen
