Requesting Help with a Record Search
Hi Maria,
Would you be able to assist me in the record search and translation for the following individual:
Name: Anna Michalska
Type of Record: Birth
Date of Birth: approximately 1840
Place of Birth: Polajewo (Kuyavian-Pomeranian)
I am looking to go further into the past to find the next generation of my ancestors. I will need to find siblings and additional marriage records to do this. Since I do not have specific information, I cannot request a search for these documents. I looked through some of the records for Ostrowaz on www.szukajwarchiwach.gov.pl but didn't find anything. I am planning a visit to the nearby Family Search Affiliate Library on Sunday to see what I can find. Thank you and have a good day.
Sincerely,
Stephen

Hi Stephen,
The catholic church books for Połajewo are on the website genealogiawarchiwach.pl.
I had a look there and there is an Anna Michalak born in 1839. Since I don't read Polish, I couldn't help you any further with the record, but I still hope that it might help.
Please let me know if you require a link to the website.
All the best for your search,
Christine

Hi Christine,
I am not familiar with that site, but I was able to find it. How does one go about accessing records from the site? (I feel like such a novice!) I found a link taking me to www.szukajwarchiwach.gov.pl (a site I have visited in the past), but there do not seem to be any scanned records for that time. Thank you.
Sincerely,
Stephen

Hi,
I will try and write the steps:
(1) Click on "Start browsing"
(2) Where it says "Enter the name ..." write in Anna Michalak
(3) There are 33 hits - and you scroll down until you find Połajewo mentioned (for me that is 3rd row on the very left)
(4) Click on the icon of a piece of paper (upper left corner) in the Polajewo entry
(5) Now you should be on a page that is handwritten (left are longer entries, on the right there is a list)
(6) On the upper left of your whole screen there is a tab to click that says "Table of contents"
(7) Click on that tab and then in the list of scans click on the word "show" for scan no. 6
(8) Anna Michalak's entry is number 28, starts bottom left
(9) the website has a download possibility for a limited no. of scans but I'm not sure anymore whether on has to register in order to use that
There are many other ways to get to the page you need but I hope this one works out for you. If not, let me know and maybe we can find another way by entering the name of the town first.
Regards, Christine

I was able to find the record and will attach it here in case anyone can come along to translate it.
After going through the process that you detailed, I no longer feel like a novice. 😊 This seems to be a nice resource to have. Thank you again and have a good day.

When you go on Sunday to your nearby Family Search Affiliate Library, you may check the birth record No. 28, Polajewo, of Anna Michalak (Michalska could be an adjective of Michalak, or daughter of Michalak), born the 20th June 1839.

Hi Maria,
Thank you for pointing out the error. I don't know why I typed Michalska. I do have her listed by the name of Michalak in my notes. Carelessness or habit, I guess.
I will need to remember using the Poznan Project as a resource. The actual record does not seem to be available through the site, but I may have found information on the marriage of her parents on the genealogiawarchiwach.pl website. There seems to be a reference to the marriage in an index listed there. I will check later to see whether the actual record is available through the site or whether I need to obtain it at the library. Thank you again and have a good day.
