Pfalz / Offenbach am Glan - Jakob Wolf + Julianna Wolf
I've been looking for records from Offenbach for Jakob Wolf (Ackersmann) and his parents (KZKC-T9K), born 27 September 1828 in Offenbach, moved to Essweiler, son of Jakob Wolf and Julianna Wolf, both of Offenbach. On one side of the Glan, is the village of Offenbach, on the other is Hundheim. For a while, the area was taken over by the French, but eventually it returned to German control. Hundheim became part of Bavaria and Offenbach became part of Prussia.
The civil record for his marriage in 1862 in Essweiler mentions "beiliegender Geburts Register Auszug" records from the Canton of Grumbach in Prussia, the civil death record mentions Kreis Sankt Wendel (although it is unclear if a "Geburtsurkunde" was presented). I am curious what the registration processes were for deaths, marriages, etc.
I can't find any records from Offenbach for the period of his birth. The protestant church records end in 1798. There do not seem to be any civil records. (There are records from Offenbach am Main and Offenbach am Queich, but these are different places.)
I have looked at records for Grumbach, Hundheim, Sankt Wendel, Sankt Julian and every other village and town in the area that I could find. Not only are the records of Offenbach (if there are any) not indexed or digitized, it seems like they were also not microfilmed/catalogged.
There is a "Verzeichnis" of records from the Standesamt Kusel, but there is no listing for Offenbach. I haven't found anything similar from Sankt Wendel.

Hi,
In the "catalogue" of church books from the Pfalz published by the main archive at Rhineland-Palatinate in 2017 there is not mention of the whereabouts of the church books from Offenbach. Let me know if you would still like to have the link to that "catalogue".
The parish of Offenbach is featured in a quite expensive book by Markus Zimmer, "Familienbuch Offenbach Hundheim - Die evangelischen Einwohner des Kirchspiels Offenbach am Glan 1731-1839". If you are interested, I will try to find out whether I would be able to order it to our local library to have a look at it and see whether it has any information for you.
I will try to get some info from the evangelical church at Offenbach by phone but that will not be possible until Friday morning.
Regards, Christine

@hehesani63 Thanks for your comment.
Dear Christine,
Regarding the catalog from Rhineland Pfalz, my guess is that it is only including bayrische Pfalz and the records for parts that went to Prussia are somewhere else. If you didn't see anything, there is not much point for me to take a look.
I'm taking a long time to compose this response. I am weighing how much I want help against my unwillingness to make trouble for someone else. You are so kind. What I am thinking about this expensive book is that I haven't yet reached the level of frustration where it is worthwhile, even if the costs are borne by a library. This could change. :) I'm sure it was a lot of work compiling the information for this book and there is not a big market. So a library purchase also makes sense.
There are things I can do myself. My German is passable and I can call for free in the German Festnetz. I don't have any experience yet contacting churches and asking for such information. But maybe I should just do it. A week ago I couldn't make any sense out of the old German handwriting, but now I can at least read the easier things.
I just sent an email to the Ortsbürgermeister asking who to contact for civil records. (There was no answer to a telephone call.)

Hi,
Thank you for your kind message.
I can understand your position very well - for me it is also never certain how much help to offer. Since I live in Germany, calling is not a problem, so I thought I should at least offer it.
Let me know if there is anything else I can do and please don't be too dismayed by my mentioning that in case you call the evangelical church at Offenbach am Glan, their church secretary's hours are only Fridays from 8.30-11 o'clock German time.
Kind regards, Christine

I called the church. The woman who answered will check what she can find and then send me an email. I am always a bit nervous on the telephone, but the woman was very helpful. Thanks for your encouragement!
