Translation requested: finding missing ancestors.
It was suggested that I join this group for suggestions. I have been looking for years and have not been able to find my ancestors on my Great Grandfather's line. My Great Grandfather is Christopher Christian Joseph Heinspeter, 1852, KG89-G2J
Sources on his page suggest he was born at Meklenburg, Langetwedt, Hadersleben, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. Family Search computer generated life history says his birthplace is Mikkelborg, Schottburg, Haderslev, Denmark. I have tried different spellings and date range. The name on his headstone is Hinspeter.
Does anyone have suggestions how I can find my ancestors?

Meklenburg/Mikkelborg is located in the northern part of the former Duchy of Schleswig (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Duchy_of_Schleswig). This area is now part of Denmark and most documents for this area are to be found in the Danish archives.
I would propose to post your request in the group for Nordic Countries Research: https://community.familysearch.org/de/group/137-nordic-countries-research. There are certainly people that can help you to find the right sources.

Schleswig-Holstein is one of those places that belonged to Denmark, then Prussia, then Denmark again. Luckily, there are Danish censuses that include parts of Schleswig-Holstein, so you may be able to find your ancestor in one of those. See https://www.familysearch.org/en/wiki/Schleswig-Holstein_Census for more information about census availability. See also https://www.familysearch.org/en/wiki/Schleswig-Holstein_Historical_Geography for more information about the historical boundaries.
