Two questions about an Emden Einwohnerlisten
Hello!
This Einwohnerlisten 1855 from Germany, Preußen, Hannover, Emden, Emden shows my 3rd great grandparents on line 9 at the bottom of page. I see their names, Christ Nolting and Greetje Weilland. He (I assume) is age 63 and they are of the Reformed religion.
My questions are:
1) I believe they were "boat people" or lived on a ship, is that what is indicated by "Stand, Beruf oder Gewerbe Transport?"
2) Is there any additional information that might be helpful in the 3 handwritten lines above the name on line 1?
Thank you for any help you can provide!
Jennifer

Hello Jennifer,
Each line represents one person.
Line 9 represents Greetje Weilland, who is the surviving widow of Christ Nolting.
Age: 63 years old.
Number of residents: this first tick mark represents: female.
Marital status: this second tick mark represents: widow.
Religion: this third tick mark represents: Reformed religion.
Thus, Greetje Weilland is 63 years old, female, widowed, and is an adherent of the Reformed religon.
Comments:
The word "Transport" written at the top of the page may indicate that Greetje was living on a ship or boat.
What is written above line 1: Partly in the main, partly in small adjoining buildings.

You're welcome, Jennifer. This was an interesting record.

The word Transport simply means the numbers in that row were carried over from the previous page, i.e. the summary totals.
