Farm names/numbers - maps? books?
It appears that my ancestor, Moritz Rottger, married an Anna Maria Schafer/Schaper. Several of the events in their lives and the lives of their children refer to a "Num. 46 Vehlage". Vehlage is a small village in the Alswede, Westfalen, Prussian, Germany parish.
I found some "farm books" for another part of Germany and am wondering how I might find out if some exist for the above area? Or where I might look for them? Is there a special name that they go by or just "farm book"?
Thanks so much!

The German term for "farm" is Hof or plural Höfe. A list of the Höfe in Vehlage can be found here: https://mi.westfalenhoefe.de/doku.php?id=wiki:espelkamp_vehlage_hoefe
The name connected with No. 46 is Schäfer. Unfortunately there is no more information available.

I see farms #21 and 41 in Ulrich's link have the name Röttger. Perhaps Moritz is connected to these farms in some way.

Thank you both -- it's wonderful to see all of the farm names -- names that I see throughout the Alswede parish registers!
There is a site where apparently a history of each farm in Bersenbruck (Osnabruck) was created:
I am wondering if there might be something like this for the farms I'm searching?
Greg - you are right about Moritz Rottger - he died in 1782 at Num 46, but by then he had taken on the surname Schafer - the farm name.

Archion has the Geschlechterverzeichnis volumes for Versmold. For each farm, there is a list of the couples, and number of children. These might exist for other places as well.

Thank you - I will check it out!

There is a genealogy society specializing on Westphalia:
http://www.wggf.de/?Die_WGGF:Beitraege_zur_westfaelischen_Familienforschung
This would be my first address to turn to for questions about families and farms. They can possibly arrange for a contact with knowledge about the Vehlage farms.

If you find a detailed map of the area, that is old enough, sometimes the farm names are entered.
I've had luck with this site. Use the "search this map" box. https://maps.arcanum.com/en/map/europe-19century-secondsurvey/?bbox=483693.51498859527%2C5766868.6410639845%2C1994089.193903678%2C6385702.822060771&layers=158%2C164

Loved to see the maps you recommended Cheryl. Although they didn't give the farm names, I have a little better feel for the village. I will try getting further info from the genealogy society specializing on Westphalia.
