Berlin, Germany where to search
My mothers ancestors came from Berlin. I've tried the low hanging fruit at FS and ancestry with poor results. What would be some good places to search for births in Berlin around 1900? Anywhere you can think of, no matter how obvious it should be to me, could be helpful. I found a birth certificate for my grandfathers brother that puts them in the middle of town , section Xa. I'm looking for evidence for Otto K Lutter b. 3 Dec 1900 and his parents Karl Friedrich Lutter and Bertha Wilhelmine Ernestine Bölter. I found their marriage certificate ( https://www.ancestry.com/imageviewer/collections/2957/images/41911_prep809_000575-00382?pId=188239980 ) but I can't find anything on Otto. I'm going to ask for a full translation of the marriage cert on another page.
Thanks in advance

Hello @christianmeyer1,
See the following link from Ancestry for the 1923 marriage record of Otto Karl Paul Lutter and Anna Margarete Walla: https://www.ancestry.com/discoveryui-content/view/189562290:2957?tid=&pid=&queryId=738ec4e17cb135267bc5a8e19d84132a&_phsrc=paO1870&_phstart=successSource
According to this record, Otto was born in Bernstein, Kreis Soldin, Brandenburg, Prussia, on 3 December 1900.
So this is where you should look for his birth record.
Note however that Bernstein is now located in Poland and is called: Pełczyce, Szczecin, Poland.
FamilySearch only has one set of records for Bernstein/Pełczyce which fall outside the time period for this birth.
I am not familiar with German records now in Poland so you may need to ask for help in the Polish genealogy community group: https://community.familysearch.org/en/group/157-poland-research
I hope this helps you with your family research
P.S. According to the marriage record Otto's birth record is no. 86 in the 1900 Bernstein civil registration birth register.

Thank you for your time searching. I have seen this record, and although the birth date and name match quite well, I'm still not sure this is my grandfather as his wife was Frieda A Zeimer And his parents should also be in Berlin So I'm not sure how he would be in Bernstein. Strangely they were married about the same time, Mar 1937 on my records and Apr 1938 in the record you found.
Thanks again
Chris
And I'm still looking for general ideas on where to find Berlin records

I'm re reading the link Robert sent. We think the marriage certificate was dated 1923 and I'm not sure what that little box in the corner is about. On the other hand, I think Otto's parents marriage cert. says something about Bernstein. Maybe he was married to Anna before Frieda
I Still need Ideas for Berlin for the rest of the Lutters
Thanks
Chris

There was a session at rootstech 2023 regarding big city research in Berlin and Hamburg. It might have some useful information. I think this link will get you to a recording of the session:
Oops, I see that this session is in German. There is apparently a way to autotranslate according to a button under the presentation. I hope that works.

I previewed that video. I still need to fully watch it. There is a way to translate the closed captioning. look for the little note below the video.

Hello @christianmeyer1,
The note in the upper right corner of the 1923 marriage record is stating that Otto Karl Paul Lutter and Anna Margarete Walla were divorced on 12 February 1938.

There's some family dirt to discover. My info says he married my gmom in 1937. The same year the twins were born.
thanks for translating the note I was wondering what it was about.

Hi @christianmeyer1,
I reviewed that note again and can confirm that the date of the divorce was 12 February 1938.
