death mark over baptismal record

I am researching birth records from St Lucia Church, Rogliano, Cosenza, 1700's. Some names in the margins have a cross above the name, and some have the word obiit above the name; some don't have anything written above the name in the margin. I assume the two markings indicate the person died.

Do the two different markings mean different things? For instance, does the word "obiit" mean the child died right away or soon after birth? Does the cross above the name indicate anything?

Likely both mean death, beyond that, it may just depend on whoever was in charge of the books at the time.

thanks cousin vinny. I did find the death record of a person who lived 50 years who had the word "obiit" written above the name in the margin of her baptismal record. I was hoping that the cross above the name in the margin of the baptismal record would mean the baby died soon after birth and that "obiit" meant they had died much later or a death record was issued or made. The crosses over the names in most instances are faint.
