Who indexed the "Switzerland, Catholic and Lutheran Church Records, 1418-1996"?
Hello all,
Recently I have been a lot of record matches for my ancestors from the canton of Vaud. All records comes from the "Switzerland, Catholic and Lutheran Church Records, 1418-1996" which apparently were added recently.
As the images are not public, I was wondering who participated in the indexing? Did it happen here on FamilySearch? Was it done by the Archives Cantonales Vaudoises and others? Computer indexing?
Thank you very much,
Nicolas

These are a huge(!) amount of data from all over Switzerland, and definitely (as a whole) not added recently … or does your statement apply only to selected indices?

So I assume you are interested in Vaud records (only?): I cannot answer your question, but feel you have to be more specific, to give others a chance 😉. It likely would be helpful if you explain, why you are asking, e.g. because you found too many errors?

Yes, indeed, I was talking about the indices. They are mentioned in this blog post: https://www.familysearch.org/en/blog/new-records-25-july-2022

I'm just curious :). If it would have been public on FamilySearch I would have gladly helped. I did find a few errors, like misspelling in the family name, sex not present, or some other things I don't remember now :).
And yes I'm mostly interested in Vaud records but not only (Geneva, Bern, Valais, Neuchâtel).

That's a problem with several cantons in Switzerland: the copyright holders (often the State Archives) haven't given familysearch permission to make these records freely available - so people like you (and me) have to visit a Family History Centre to view these records - a nuissance if you want to help indexing. Not much familysearch can do about this - apart from keep trying to get such a permission (which, I have been told, they are doing).

Yes, I was told about this situation, I've been to the Archives Cantonales Vaudoises multiple times, it's nice but progress is very slow. Also, with opening hours such as 9h-17h, it's impossible with a fulltime job.
What I don't understand is why cantons like Geneva have decided to put their archives online freely but not cantons like Vaud for example.
I have ancestors from Geneva and I could do all the research from home, I could download the high-quality scans, etc. It was very nice.
Anyway...
(which, I have been told, they are doing)
Ah, well that's good news then! :)
