When did "Civil Registration" start in canton St.Gallen?
https://www.familysearch.org/en/wiki/Canton_Sankt_Gallen,_Switzerland_Genealogy states: Civil registration began in Canton Sankt Gallen in 1867.
This is wrong - but could just be a typo: present day's national Civil Registry system started in 1876 … 76 > 67 ? Examples of what to expect there may be found on https://www.geneal-forum.com/phpbb/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?t=31883.
https://www.familysearch.org/en/wiki/Switzerland_Civil_Registration states: Nationwide civil registration began on January 1, 1876. Several cantons began keeping records earlier; pre-1876 records may look different depending on the canton: … Sankt Gallen (SG): 1867
Here clearly pre-1876 records are addressed - and 1867 is simply wrong. The related legislation in canton St.Gallen is from 1834 - so the registers started usually 1835/36. Larger communities had started much earlier.
I don't want to get involved with the wiki - but possibly someone could forward this information to the appropriate person.
