You're welcome, KG. It appears the decedent donated his body to the medical school in Heidelberg.

Hi Kent,
Heidelberg University is one of the oldest universities worldwide, founded in 1386 (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heidelberg_University). It certainly had an anatomy institute in the medical faculty in 1847.
One can only speculate for which reason the body of Wilhelm Nagel was delivered to the anatomy insitute. I tend to agree with @Robert Seal_1 that the body was donated for medical education and research, in particular since there is no mentioning of a burial. After an autopsy there usually would be a funeral.

Robert Seal_1 Ulrich Neitzel Hi, Ulrich and Robert, I looked in Wikipedia.de for the anatomy institute in Heidelberg and found nothing. Heidelberg is about 40 km north of Graben. It appears an autopsy was done on Wilhelm Nagel at the medical school. Today they have a cadaver lab on campus. Interesting turn of events. Do you think the authorities suspected foul play because Wilhelm was found dead in a field early in the morning? Thoughts? Have you heard of this before? Kent

Hello Kent,
Yes, it's possible that the body was sent to Heidelberg for an autopsy because of his unexpected death in the field. However, given his age at death of 52+ years it's not unreasonable to assume that the cause of his death was not necessarily suspicious but of a natural cause such as heart attack or stroke.
