Hello all,

I want to request help from the group to translate a marriage record for an ancestor. The record is from the 1700s and appears to be in kurrent script. I would appreciate a transcription into the native language and a translation into English if possible. If not, just an English translation will do.

In addition, I would like to ask for clarification regarding the bride's name. Is Richardis a German name or is it a latinized version of a German name? If so what is the German name and how would it be pronounced in German? Also is Richardis a female name? I presume it is given that at this time **** marriages were not allowed.

Also, there appear to be signatures for the bride and groom. Can anyone clarify if these signatures would have been written in the handwriting of the bride and groom respectively? It looks different than the rest of the writing.

Lastly, I have put a red box around what I believe is the proper entry. If not, please tell me what the proper entry is.

Groom: Franciscus Xaverius Joerger, tanner by profession, single, adult, son of Franciscus Joerger and Catharina Baumann, farmers in Thiergarten in Baden

Bride: Richardis Krechtler, single/unmarried daughter of Josephus Krechtler, baker and small shop owner in Cappel, and of Magdalena Rettig, his spouse

Witnesses: Franciscus Joerger, father of the groom, and Josephus Krechtler, father of the bride, who have signed this together with me, and the groom and bride

Note: Richardis is a feminine given name in German (she was also a Catholic saint)
