Help with translating German Newspaper article

From Seattle in Washington this news was received:

The mortal remains of August Kuechmeister were turned into ashes at the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery here. Kuechmeister was well known in the social circles of the German clubs. Fourteen years ago he arrived in Seattle from San Francisco, where he had spent many years in the service of the largest seller of material goods [spices etc.] on the West coast, and soon became well known. He was one of the founders of the Plattdeutschen Verein [Low German Club], which now flourishes and has also taken care of his funeral expenses because the 65-year old man had become totally destitute in recent years.

Kuechmeister first saw the light of the world in Hamburg and came to America as a young man. He married, but the childless marriage was not a happy one, so he was divorced fifteen years ago. He then resigned himself to drunkenness, sank lower and lower, his friends deserted him one by one, and one morning the formerly so beloved man who had enjoyed life was found dead in his shabby little room in a run-down boarding house. He had voluntarily said goodbye to life by shooting himself.
