Where can I get 1944 East German Marriage Records? & 1980 or later Hamburg Death Records?

both born in East Germany prior to the family fleeing to West Germany through Berlin prior to the sealing of the wall in 1961

In Germany the legal retention periods for civil status documents of the registry offices are 110 years for birth records, 80 years for marriage records and 30 years for death records. Before the expiry of this period only direct decendants can apply for access.

In any case you would need to know in which registry office (location) the birth/marriage/death was documented.
