Protocol for naming bride's father when biological father is deceased
Does anyone know what is the protocol for naming the bride’s father at a Catholic wedding in Illinois when the bride’s biological father has died many years earlier? Three times I have encountered a Catholic wedding record from the 1800’s wherein it is known that the bride’s biological father is dead but the bride’s biological mother is correctly named along with a man with a different first name but same last name as the bride’s biological father. In each case, census and other records confirm that the bride’s mother is alive and has not remarried before the wedding. Possibly the man named as the bride’s father is a brother of the bride’s deceased father but I haven’t been able to confirm this. Can anyone help explain this?
