Help in finding correct German town and Kirchspiel
Hello-
I am seeking help to find the correct town that my German family is from. I am unsure of what avenue to take. I have attached a picture of the obituary of my great great grandfather. In it it gives 2 different birth towns/parish (not sure what they are called) and I looked on Meyers Gazette but it is so confusing. What does by Ruendel mean? And is it Hessendorf or Hessen? I am still a little new at this. So i am seeking advice and help on what to do or where to go? What town/city would they be referring to in this obituary? This is the most information I have found so far. After years of searching, I feel like I still do not know what I am doing HAHA.
thank you for your help.

Hello Courtney,
I am pretty sure that the birthplace of your gg grandfather is Hessendorf as given in Meyers: https://www.meyersgaz.org/place/10785047. Ruendel seems to be a misspelling of Rinteln, a town 2 miles NE of Hessendorf. Both places were situated in the province of Hessen-Nassau at that time (now they belong to the German federal state of Niedersachsen), more precisely in an exclave about 100 miles north of the Hesse mainland (see map https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Province_of_Hesse-Nassau#/media/File:German_Empire_-_Prussia_-_Hesse_Nassau_(1871).svg).

On Ancestry I found a family tree with additional information for Anton Friedrich "Fred" Hagemann:

@Ulrich Neitzel Thank you for confirming that and helping me. I appreciate it. So does that mean that the closest Kirchspiel would be in Mollenbeck based on what Meyers says? That is the part I do not understand. They were Lutheran and I can't seem to figure out how to find the closest parish to start looking for church records. I watched a video that says I need to find the closest Kirchspiel, and then look through the church documents there. I just can't seem to find his parents anywhere. Thanks for any direction you can point me in.

Hello Courtney,
you are quite right that the nearest church/parish was Möllenbeck. The point is: I can't find church books for Möllenbeck in Archion (https://www.archion.de/en/the-portal/), which is the online portal for German lutheran church books. The parish in Möllenbeck (https://www.reformiert.de/moellenbeck.html) belongs to the branch of the Reformed Churches, maybe these have a different depository. You can contact the pastor Ute Schulz directly by email (schulz@moellenbeck.de) for more information.

Oh my gosh your amazing!!! Thank you thank you! Yes i have been trying to use Archion and I even bought a pass to use all the features. I didn't really know what I was doing anyway and my German is very rusty so it produced nothing. So that makes so much sense. Thank you again. For future, if I run into a situation like this again, how did you find the parish, or know that website too look for one? I had no idea how or where to even go or what to type in the web.
Thank you for all your time answering my questions. I feel there is a light at the end of the tunnel.

@Courtamber We are so glad you have joined our German community - It is a great place to get help and to help others! We have a lot of talented, experienced participants here.
Most of the time, it is best to use "ask a question" - do this by selecting the arrow to the right of "new discussion". Asking a question allows you to accept the answer or let us know you would like more help.
Be sure to review the links at the top of our community page for some great resources. We look forward to hearing from you. We are so glad you are part of this great community!
Thanks for being patient as we sometimes must wait for a response to come from a volunteer with the needed skill set. It is always good if you include the identification number of the person in question in Family Search Family Tree so we can see the bigger picture.
We look forward to your comments and questions.
Enjoy today! Cindy Jarvis

@Cindy Jarvis Hello and thank you for the welcome! I tried the ask a question link and it wouldn't let me do that. It says that i am not allowed to perform that function. Am I missing something? So my next help topic i had to use the discussion one again.
Thanks for the help.
