How to
Hi I am a FamilySearch service missionary and work in the Nordic countries. My grandmother from my mother's side is German. I think I finally got help in finding my great grandfather's birth place, but I have lost my German and I need an Eglish explanation on how to search in Germany, how to read the books, where to find them. Looks like he was born in Neidschütz, Bezirk, Halle, Germany. Karl August Füchsel, 3 April 1843. Someone very nice in fb German genealogy found him for me.
I am also missing my Great grandmother Bertha Maria Engelhart 4. May 1850. From somewhere I found the name Lina in front, but I am not sure if that is correct, she was called Bertha. Karl and Bertha lived in Leipzig, but I have no idea where she came from. All I know is that my mother said that many of her relatives had moved to Russia.
Karl ... my mother understood that he lived with his sister or aunt when young (he also escaped for and from the France Legion). He was a language professor in Leipzig. I have their family`s names and birthdates even spouses, where they disappeared in the war I have no idea. I have no death dates of any of them, but no one contacted my grandmother or mother after the war, except a sister to a brother in law and she had not heard from them either.
As I am adopted I do not even have the DNA I could use... too bad I did not take my mother's DNA before she died! So I really need to know how to search in Germany on the internet... or get a helper. Any good ideas?
