Reading birth record for Gebauer
Hi,
I would like help deciphering a church birth record for a family I think is related to my great-great-grandmother. Here's what I have figured out so far.
This family lived in Nürnberg or nearby. I know that the bride's father was a master shoemaker in Nürnberg. This is from the parish St. Johannis in Nürnberg, the last entry for 1831.
Anyway, I'd like to wring out the missing information here, especially the details about the occupations and locations.
Thanks!
Elda

Yes, a Lehrjung or Lehrling is an apprentice, usually for a craft but it could also be in the trade. The requirement for a baptismal sponsor was normally the confirmation; this could well have been done at the age of 14, although it is rather unusual with so young witnesses for a baptism.
Unfortunately I have no access to Archion.

Thank you, Ulrich. The original document scan was dark, so I tried to lighten it up as a .jpg, but that probably didn't help the clarity. Here's a permalink to Archion if that helps.
The most interesting part of your translation is that the sponsor was the BROTHER of the child's mother, not her father of the same name. This makes sense, though her brother by that name would have been only 14 in 1831. Is that maybe what "Lehr Jung" refers to...that he is a young student? I wonder how old you had to be to be a witness.
My great-great-grandmother was a Kästner (Käster) and possibly related to the father of this child. Anna Barbara and her brother Johann Friedrich were siblings of this great-great-grandmother's husband. I'm trying to figure out more about her birth family. Complicated!
