Thanks for forming this group. It motivated me to post a picture of my 150 year old chair from the wedding of my great grandparents. I had neglected making this a memory.

RobertGivens! What a treasure to have a chair that has been in your family so long! Thanks for sharing! Wouldn't it be a share if your descendants just knew that this was an old chair and knew no story about it? Is this chair in their wedding photos?

@Carolyn Webber - There are no wedding photos. In fact I have a portraits of each and a few taken by my their son-in-law, my grandfather, before he died in 1925. But that is all. We have known about the marriage for decades from the county marriage records. Just a month ago though indexing brought to light some church marriage records - the following was found in the marriage records of the Bowling Green (Ohio) Circuit Methodist Episcopal Church:
"May 12 (1870) Henry H Sands and MIss Jennie Beck both of Bowling Green, O. Birth place for both unknown. Groom occupation Grocery Clerk. Married by T. A. Barkdull. Remarks by minister (after the fact): Afraid her "Sands" will soon run out - too much drink." That is insulting but then again a most precious tidbit into Henry's life. BTW - they remained married until they died (he in 1915 and she in 1923.) My grandmother was the 9th and last child of this union so it must have worked out a little better than the minister projected.

The minister's remark was a bit gossipy, but I imagine that it was said out of concern. Ministers probably saw a lot of abandoned wives and children. I am glad that your ancestors were able to keep it together! This is a treasured tidbit though. You should be able to write a fun story about her "Sands" not running out!
