What is your source for Pilsen? I have included the genteam gazetteer entry for a search with "Pilsen". Religion? Is 1859 his birth year? Was he married in Bohemia? http://www.portafontium.de/iipimage/30060005/abertamy-05_0490-n Image 48 starts 1859

    Hello again,

Well I found in Anton's immigration record that he was from Oldenburg. Other census records stated he was from various places... Austria, Bohemia, germany. Thinking the earlier record might be more likely correct, then how do I search Oldenburg? He was Catholic and born in 1859. I've looked for church records in FS but got frustrated, don't read the language.

    Thanks,

    Jan

He could have gone to Oldenburg to earn money for the voyage. Oldenburg is not usually labeled as Austria or Bohemia. It is probably his last place of residence and not birthplace. Where did he live in the US? Name of spouse? Were they married in the US? Do you have any US sources for him?

Hello, I have lots of sources for Anton and Regina Tropp. Naturalization record states Anton is born in Germany, Immigration his origin is Oldenburg, 1900 census b. in Bohemia, 1910 census born in Austria, 1920 census born in Austria, 1930 census son Arthur, says both parents born in Germany, 1940 census states parents born in Austria, Marriage of Anton and Regina in Chicago from license and Catholic church record with no other info, Anton's death cert. states Anton and Martin(father) were born in Austria. Anton had his own milk dealer company and I have some pictures and a milk bottle. I really don't know where to look next. I see the locations are spread out. I also wonder about the border changes if that is why there are so many different places listed. Also Dad said Anton was fleeing the Astro-Hungary war and that is why he came to the US. So I am still looking for Martin and Annie Tropp with their son Anton.

    Thanks,

    Jan Tropp

My Moravian ancestors (Moravia part of the Czech Republic) posted in their records that they were Bohemian, German, Austrian (Bohemia was part of the Austrian-Hungarian Empire) but never Moravia (Mähren). If he were German I don't think he would say he was fleeing the Austrian-Hungarian War. Men in Bohemia were forced to serve in military service. What port did he leave from? Usually the ports they left from in Germany were Bremen or Hamburg. Do you have a link for his immigration record?

If they left from the port of Hamburg, the Hamburg Passenger List on Ancestry will provide the last place of residence.

Here is what I have on immigration record for Anton.

I cannot seem to get the scans to attach here. How would I do that?

The Ancestry record states Baltimore Passenger Lists, 1820-1948. Page 28

It shows country of birth Oldenburg, and last legal residence Oldenburg.

There is a paper clip under the box for the posts that you use to attach clips.

Oldenburg is very big and would take extensive time and money to search. Also Oldenburg is a district. He also could have stated the nearest big city as his place of birth and actually lived in a surrounding village.

I cannot seem to attach this pdf file. Under RACE it says Oldenberg and under last residence it says Oldenberg. This was found at AncestryInstitution.com - Baltimore Passenger lists, 1820-1948.

    Thanks,

    Jan

The city of Oldenburg is very big. It could be his place of birth or could have gone to the big city to earn money for his passage. You could try searching this digitized church record at your nearest Family History Center. It does cover the right years. https://www.familysearch.org/search/catalog/209097?availability=Family%20History%20Library

Hello, yes I have been at this for about 10 years, so maybe that will work. Thanks for any other thoughts you have for me. He has been a hard one to find.
