Trying to link my wife's id to my account. Keeps telling me the id doesn't exist.

Right, her ID is blocked because she is living. You will create a new person for her. Then attach her to her parents (if they are still living you will need to create a new record for each of them) and so on until you can link to deceased persons already showing in Family Tree. This is required due to privacy requirements of laws all over the world.

You must be new to "Family Tree" (formerly: "New.FamilySearch") of "FamilySearch", like we all were at some time.

And, 'Yes', you are creating a "Duplicate", of a "Living" individual/person in "Family Tree"; but, in these circumstances it is unavoidable - the circumstance being that they are "Living" and subject to the myriad of "Privacy" Laws in the various Countries and Unions around the World (as indicated by 'Anne').

Any "Living" individuals/persons in your Account (ie. Pedigree) in "Family Tree" are in YOUR, what is know as, "Private Spaces".

NO Other User/Patron can see any "Living" individuals/persons in YOUR "Private Spaces".

For all intensive purposes any "Living" individuals/persons in YOUR "Private Spaces" DO NOT exist in the sight of other Users/Patrons.

And, 'Yes', again, "Living" individuals/persons can therefore be "Duplicated" many times.

I am "Duplicated", at least, Six (x6) times that I know of (once each for my Wife and Children); but, in fact, most likely many more times, when you include extended rather than immediate Family.

There have been requests/suggested enhancements to be able to "Share" the "Living" individuals/persons in our "Private Spaces"; and, that is still being considered (as to, both, (1) if it is permissible subject to the myriad of "Privacy" Laws in the various Countries and Unions around the World; and, (2) more importantly, how to do it effectively).

Some improvements have been implemented. Sources can now be added to living persons which had not been permitted in the past.
