Morte translation help
Attached is the death record for my great-uncle, Salvatore Turco, son of Sebastiano and Lucia Todaro. If someone could give me the details of it, I would greatly appreciate it. I would like to know his occupation, if listed, and his age. He lived in Carlentini, Sicily and I am trying to figure out where exactly he died. Many, many thanks!

Indeed, this is a transcription of a death certificate for Salvatore Turco issued by the comune of Palermo that was later transmitted to the comune of Carlentini.
Palermo, died in jail on 1 Nov 1913, Salvatore Turco, son of Sebastiano and of Lucia Todaro from Carlentini
EDIT: Changed "prison" to "jail" as a better translation of the Italian "carcere giudiziario"

That is very interesting. My grandparents told me Salvatore was a sheriff and was killed in a dead end alley by the Mafia. I guess I have more research to do.

Rereading the document, it says he died in "carcere giudiziario", that is to say in prison awaiting/during trial, not yet convicted of a crime. I guess the better term in English to translate with would have been "jail" rather than "prison". My apologies for this oversight.

Thank you for your response. My father told me his uncle was killed on the courthouse steps, so perhaps that is true.
I was wondering if there is way to search military records for that time frame? Or newspapers? Salvatore would have turned 18 around 1903. I am going to follow the theory that he was some type of police as that is what his family believed. It is my understanding that military police did not serve in their own providences, which would explain why he was in Palermo, not Siracusa.
Any tips for research would be welcomed!

This family story is certainly possible then. It is definitely certain that he died while in pre-trial/pre-conviction custody. Although this record does say that his place of death was "in the jail", the original notification from the jail officials to the comune may have been a standard form letter, and so he might not literally have died in the jail building.
As for military records, you are very lucky to be from Siracusa province, since Siracusa province military records are online on FamilySearch:

Other years besides these have not been digitized and would need to be consulted at the provincial Archivio di Stato, as is usual for Italian military records. I imagine his military service record will be very useful to consult.
There are not many old Italian newspapers that have been put online, unlike other countries. Newspaper research is in Italy is typically a non-starter. Perhaps local libraries in Palermo will have old newspapers from the city in their collection of periodicals, but even this is uncertain.
