Photos before photography existed in common place

I occasionally see photos uploaded and linked to people in FamilySearch Family Tree for people who died prior to 1850 - when it is obvious that the photo was taken much later.
Photography and photographers didn't become common place until like the mid to late 1840's. photos reported to have been taken before like 1845 are quite rare.
Photography wasn't even invented until like 1830 and it took like 15-20 years to become common place.
Use common sense and analytical judgement rather than just assuming a photo is whom it is reported to be.
In my family there is a photo reported to have been of my great-great-grandfather John Snyder see: https://www.familysearch.org/photos/artifacts/13611093?cid=mem_copy
but due to the fact that John died in 1842 in Canada - I seriously doubt this is a photo of him - but more likely a relative of his - by the same name that someone has confused.
