Jasvainus, Lithuania
Frank Joseph Kalafski (Kaklauskas) has spelled his hometown "Jasvainus" on his World War II draft registration card and on his naturalization papers. Neither Google, Wikipedia nor the place standardization recognize the place. Wikipedia lists a town called "Josvainiai," but I don't know if that is the same place. Can anyone help me with this?

Great intuition! Judging by all the variant spellings of this place-name (in Lithuanian, Polish, Russian, Yiddish, and German) it appears that Jasvainus is the same as Josvainiai. So we added your variant spelling to the list of variants, and added some notes and research links that will hopefully help you in your genealogical research. This place has quite a history - and I imagine so does your Frank Joseph Kalafski.
You can find the details in FamilySearch Places under Josvainiai, Kėdainiai, Kauno Apskritis, Lithuania. Thank you for bringing this to our attention.
