Memories: Stories and Documents

When adding a Story or Document to Memories, I fill in the templates for date, place, Album, etc..... However, generally when I then link that same document or story to a second individual, the information in the date and place template disappears. The other Templates remain with the information as I originally entered it. It also appears to me that some times the information in the date and place templates disappears later as well. The Album and the Topic Tag always seem to remain as they were originally entered.

Once I have entered the information in the date and place template twice, it usually seems to remain.

Is there a reason for this?

Second query. When I enter a "Story" then press the return arrow ostensibly to return to the Detail's Page, what actually comes up is a blank or new Story Page. Why?

by "return arrow" - do you mean the back button function of your browser? In general with a system like Family Search - you should avoid the back arrow (return to previous page) function of the Browser (usually in upper left) and try to use navigational button and links that are on the actual page/system you are in.

This is due to the fact that programmers who develop system like FamilySearch - really dont have much control over what happens when you click the back button of the browser (since it is the browser -and those who programmed it - who control what the back button does) - - I know that is rather confusing - - but in general - most complex system like FS - dont work well when you are using the back button of the browser.

If the site is designed well - you should be able to use other links (on the pages that you are navigating through) to go back to where you were - without using the back button of the browser.

In my case I can see that if I submit a story - that I can go back to the details area - by clicking on the details link (and avoiding the back button of the browser)

Its always good to try and see what you can do without using the back button - though in some cases it may be your only choice (when navigating the Internet as a whole) - but when you are navigating inside a system (such as FS - with dynamic database content ) - you should try your best to use the links, tabs, and other navigational links that were programmed into the specific system/page - and avoid the back button of the browser.
