Seeking Help
This gentleman is seeking help and I am hoping that one of you will be able to assist him.
@SAntoon We are seeking a birth certificate for my wife’s mother Madeline Dorothy Snyman. We have found the attached records for her.
1)Wedding certificate Walter James Ellingson married Madeline (Madge) Dorothy Snyman September 28, 1935, Springs, Transvaal, South Africa. The parents divorced in 1946.
2)Madeline Dorothy remarried Harold Maurice Stanley May 23, 1947, and is recorded as 38 years old from Cape Province and moved to Rhodesia.
3)My wife Dulcie was born July 29, 1940, Johannesburg, South Africa. On her birth Certificate, her mom is recorded as born in Cape Province, 31 years old, which would make her birth year 1909.
4)Madeline Dorothy Death Certificate March 16, 1955, Salisbury, Rhodesia. Dulcie lost her mother at the tender age of fourteen and her mother’s early life remains a mystery.
5)Her father was Walter James Ellingson born Durban January 9, 1908. Walter’s father was Edwin Andrew ELLINGSON. We have traced Edwin's heritage back to Norway with interesting results.
6)Madeline Dorothy’s father could possibly be Cornelis Fredrik Snyman born in 1886 in Colesberg. He was baptised on the November 2, 1886. He was the youngest child of Phillipus Jacobus Snyman born in 1844 and Margaretha Dorothea van Schalkwyk born in 1847.
He married Maria Elizabeth Magdalena du Plessis on April 28, 1913, in Jagersfontein. He was a Goldminer on the Rand. Cornelis Fredrik died Springs Transvaal February 2, 1922. The death notice where his wife gave the information, one child was called Magdalina Dorothy but without birthdate.
When Cornelis Frederik Snyman married Maria Elizabeth Magdalina du Plessis 1913 she was aged 17. Magdalena Dorothea born 1909 was already four years old at this time. It is improbable that Maria Elizabeth Magdalina du Plessis aged 13 years of age gave birth to Dorothea Magdalena and is therefore more likely to be her stepmom from 1913 onwards. It seems Dorothea Magdalena was born out of wedlock.
My Heritage DNA test for my wife Dulcie Stevens born Ellingson recorded nearly a 50% English DNA which I believe originates with the 1820 settlers who left England and settled in the Eastern Cape of South Africa
We would appreciate any information you may find to shed some light on the Madeline Dorothy Snyman or possibly Dorothea Magdalena Snijman, connection particularly her birth/baptism record which would show her parent’s names. This info would help in finding her ancestors.
