Latin Abbreviation Next to Name? (Slovak Record)
Hello!
I am interested in the record of Maria Nehila (b. 11 Dec 1885), daughter of Mátyas Nehila and Anna Pál. There is an abbreviation preceding Mátyas' name, but I can't seem to find what it means. Has anyone else come across this? It looks like "Jffiabb," or maybe a combination of two different abbreviations?
Thank you in advance!
Teresa

A quick hack for figuring out what language a register is filled out in (which may or may not have anything to do with the language of the pre-printed text, if any, or even with any hand-written column headers): look for people named John. If it's written as Johannes or Joannes, the record is in Latin. (Yes, Johannes is also used in German, but if it's readable handwriting, it's not in German.) If it's written as János, the record is in Hungarian.
