👩 Celebrating Inspiring Women in Our Family History
With Mother's Day in May and the opportunity to share appreciation for the women in our lives, I thought I'd share some fun ideas I found at Family Locket on engaging children and youth in discovering inspiring women in their family history.
For Children
· Play "I Spy With My Genealogy Eye" using framed ancestral photos around the house, photo albums, or pictures uploaded to the Memories section on FamilySearch.org: http://olivetreegenealogy.blogspot.com/2011/06/i-spy-with-my-genealogy-eye.html
· Sew clothes for dolls like your female ancestor may have worn: http://www.cranialhiccups.com/2016/03/using-dolls-to-share-family-history-stories.html
Tip: You could also do this with paper dolls using markers and crayons, scrapbook and construction paper, magazines, etc.
For Youth
· Discover genetic traits that show up in female ancestors by trying out "A Family of Traits": https://www.sciencebuddies.org/science-fair-projects/project-ideas/Genom_p010/genetics-genomics/pedigree-analysis-a-family-tree-of-traits (Click the tabs near the top of the page to follow the steps.)
· Play "Geneopardy," a Jeopardy-like online game, and find out things you may not have known about women in your family history: https://geneopardy.fhtl.byu.edu/
Tip: Sign into FamilySearch Family Tree to autopopulate the Geneopardy board.
