"Challenges and Solutions to Indigenous Representation and Silences..."
California (and Everywhere)
I just got done attending a session of the Society of California Archivists Annual GM.
At the end of "Challenges and Solutions to Indigenous Representation and Silences..." Kelci Baughman McDowell announced that they were working on a Bannon Forum Mission Integration Grant and hoped that they would be able to hire a project archivist to possibly do oral histories of the Ohlone People.
She is hoping that there will be an online speakers series this summer or fall: Integrating Ohlone Voices into the Santa Clara University Archives: A Summer Speaker Series.
One of the topics would deal with family-held archives of local Ohlone members. Let's all be on the lookout for these online sessions.
Oral histories can help flesh out what we know about our ancestors and give context to their lives from their viewpoint.
