Hello to the group...
Bonjour a tous!
I would like to introduce myself to the group. My name is Leicia Gotlibowski, although in FS I use my grandmother's name: Amelia AMOUROUX (born in Argentina to French parents, raised in an orphanage in France). I am an illustrator of children's books and newspapers, living in Argentina. I have studied my genealogy for many years, with emphasis on the navel line (female lineage).
Ten years ago a benevolent genealogist helped me and I was lucky enough to cross my tree with a very advanced one, the one with the name ENGELS. In the last Root-Techs I could see many distant cousins, most of them residents of the United States. So I hope we can together discover all the data that we are missing to put together this great puzzle.
In Argentina live (and we are in contact) the descendants of at least five of the children of Henri OSSWALD and Catherine EULERT, Protestants, who arrived from Alsace & Lorraine in 1889.
They left RAUWILLER around 1880. Their seventh child was born in MONSWILLER 1881, and they finally lived and work in LUNEVILLE before emigrating to SOUTH AMERICA (In Luneville an eighth child was born who probably died very soon).
They arrived in ARGENTINA with their six sons and a unique daughter, my great-grandmother CATHERINE OSSWALD, who married here a Frenchman LOUIS LEONCE AMOUROUX, from BORDEAUX.
They returned to France with their four children who were soon orphaned. Their mother died in 1900 in a home accident, set on fire in Bordeaux and in 1903 their father died in an accident aboard the Paquebot Maguellanes, in the rade of DAKAR. He was a military man.
Well that's a lot to start with. Now I am looking for data concerning the orphanages where 3 of the children were housed (the youngest girl was adopted by a family in Guebwiller).
Finally I leave a list of surnames of French families whose descendents ended up living Argentina and many of you could be looking for and unknown this fact:
OSSWALD (from Rauwiller & La Petite-Pierre), EULERT (from Eywiller), ANTONY (from Sarrebourg), REY (from Argovia-Suisse), KARL (from Paris) and LEYENBERGER.
