Deciphering a Russian word
Hi all,
I was hoping someone might be able to help decipher a place-name written in Cyrillic (in an 1887 marriage record, from Libau, modern-day Latvia). I have worked almost the whole text out, but this one word eludes me!
So far I have the following:
[28] лет от роду
из Неханицы
в Австрии с
Австрийскою
подданною Ана-
стасиею Люняк
девицею 27 лет
от роду, из [Мет-
понах (???)] в Австрии
обоих Римско-Ка-
толического веро-
исповедания, от
6 лет в горо-
де Либаве...
"28 years old, from Nechanice in Austria, with an Austrian national Anastasia Ljuniak, maiden, 27 years old, from [Metpony (???)] in Austria, both of Roman-Catholic creed, in the city of Libau for 6 years."
Any help with deciphering the ??? word would be greatly appreciated!

Hello,
I posted a detailed reply here, but it's missing for some reason. Will try again with a shorter version.
I've checked that a list of 17k+ Austrian settlements only has a dozen of places starting with "Met" and believe the word in question is Меттмахъ (i.e. Mettmach). Possible dim o is probably just something on the other side of the document.
thanks,
Igor.

@GrantKynaston great request - sometimes we have to wait patiently for the right person with the needed skill set to come along. Thanks for your patience. Enjoy today! Cindy Jarvis

Hi Grant! Do you by chance have a full version of the page or a link to the document? Sometimes it's helpful to me to analyze the handwriting on the entire page to figure out how a particular hand forms certain letters.

Hi Ellie! The link is: https://www.raduraksti.arhivi.lv/objects/1:4:15:2053:2261:14096?fbclid=IwAR3FNvALHftJgRsYPwLL4JNjVCxp_J1ZYZ3LxDCDnM18-Bnr6iyGlDkRr9E#&gid=1&pid=182. Accessing the page requires (free) registration, so I have included a full copy below:
Many thanks!

@IgorYa - thank you so much for all your effort: your point on the dim o is particularly insightful, and I think you must be right on Mettmach.
This has given me a bunch of avenues to explore: many thanks!
