Put the name in the search box at the top. It only recognized Hübl. If it were me I would use it and put Heibl as an alternate name.

Hiebl & Hübl are just different spelling variations of the same name. You’ll want to record a note of these spelling variations along with the sources and add it to FamilySearch (or whatever genealogy software you use) for future reference. I do this by creating a custom event field, and titling it ‘Name Variations.’ But you could also just do it by adding it to the Notes section for an individual). Just save it somewhere where it will be easy for you and any other researchers to reference in the future.

But as far as deciding which variation to use as an individual’s name on FamilySearch, my general rule of thumb is to use the spelling variation from the earliest record that I have found about an individual. (If I have found a birth/baptism record for the person, I use that spelling).

The only time I will include two different spellings of a surname within the person’s Name field in FamilySearch is when there was a name change that shows up in multiple sources due to the name being ‘translated’ into a different language or something similar. Or if a legal name change happened to occur. In these cases, it may be helpful to include both in the name field to help assist any other researchers who may be searching for this individual.

For example, we have recently found some individuals with German variations of their surnames in some records, and Czech translations or variations in other records. We have found the name Sparrer/Spor also recorded as Strada/Stradal. And the name Wegwarth/Wechwart also recorded Woczka/Wowcžak along with several other spelling variations. In these cases, because the connections between these names are due to a language change/translation, not just a spelling variation, I would include both Sparrer and Strada in the Surname field. But for all other kinds of spelling variations or nicknames, I just add them to my note about the individual’s name variations & always include all my sources.

I think it is a personal decision on what name to put. Doing what Stephani suggests is a great way to. Many genealogists do it this way. You have to decide what is best for you.

In the other information on FamilySearch there is a spot for "Alternate Names". Within the "Alternate Names" is an option for "Birth Names". This is where I put their birth names. Mostly I do this because on my database I chose one name, so when I find a name I can check my database faster and with more accuracy. I do put the alternate name in their information. Names in early records are often Latinized. They would not have used that name in real life. I also drop the female endings of surnames like owa. But I usually enter every surname of the one I am searching from the village at many time periods trying to figure out how they all fit.

We have an 'alternate name' field with dropdown menu in the 'other' area on the FamilySearch/tree database. It behooves us to list each alternate in a field (by itself, no 'or' no punctuation unless in spelling of name as in O'Brien). That way, when someone does a search the name shows in that search.

(My mother said, "If we're gonna call her 'Betsy,' we're gonna name her 'Betsy' " [named after my dad's 'Grandmother Betsy,' who was an "Elizabeth" - last name "Clements," which they gave me for a middle name, while all the other little girls had 'Ann' or 'Jean' or 'Lynn' or something pretty!]) - my daughter is 'Elisabeth' - my mother tried hard to get her called by that name . . . but alas the whole family calls her 'Pixie' . . . . Strangers she insists call her "Liz" or . . . her name. (She has four brothers . . . she can fight!) - happy huntin' - b

I am "Grandma Jack" - another long story (my dog's name was "Jack") . . . my grandkids had another "Grandma Betsy" when we started out . . . .
