Need birth cert for Abednego Daniel 1843 born Calais listed as UK citizen on census. Parents lived&
They also had 3 other children born there Shadrach 1838 Mary Magdaline1840 Thomas 1841 Noah 1842 Meshach 1844 & James 1844. Where do I get birth certificates? Would they be Consulate certs? Any help appreciated. Thank you

Births have not been registered with the Civil Registry in France. You should apply to the service which centralizes in England the births of its nationals abroad.
(For information: I checked, of course, the registers of Calais before answering you).

The family lived abroad for a few years. He was a puddler & she an interpreter.
I appreciate you checking the registers in Calais. 2 of the children died there however. Eileen

Eileen, I can't find any Abednego on Filae. Thus French officers might have misspelled the surname within records. Would you have any further details about the 2 children who died in Calais ? It might help to understand under which surname they have been recorded and trace accordingly. Thanks.

Edward & Mary Daniel had several children born in France that lived. Shadrach, Meshach , Abednego B 1842Noah B 1842 Mary Magdaline B 1840. Other children included Richard b 1836, Thomas B1841, James B 1844. Certainly all were Daniel children. Edward I am told died at sea but have no record of it. Mary & living children went back to Wales & appear on several census. Later Mary marries a Mr Hanson. Meshach moves to USA & an S added to Daniel. Thank you for any help you can offer. Eileen

Unfortunately, I do not know the service which centralizes the civil status of English nationals. However, I believe that you could obtain information from the National Archives of your country.
With regard to deaths, it's good to know that a municipality must accept in its cemetery the deceased persons in the territory. This also applies to people who do not have French nationality.
Thus, foreigners who have died or reside in a French commune can be buried in the cemetery of the commune.
In this case, it would be useful to contact the service which manages the register of cemeteries in the city to try to find a burial.

I'm not sure what is available for the period of interest 1840s.
If there was a legal requirement for registration, theoretically the French records should include registration details for all persons, not only French citizens. However, I guess there was always the possibility that some births were not registered, in spite of the legal situation. I would have thought there would be less chance a death would not be registered, this is assuming that there was a French legal requirement in respect of the time period of interest 1840s
