How can I get records from Sorrento year 1876?
This is the first time I use this forum so I am sorry if this is not the kind of questions to post here. I have been looking at relatives in Castellammare di Stabia. Most of my ancestors are from that area. I looked for my great grandfather's birth certificate but I haven't had results. However, looking at his death certificate from Argentina (he immigrated there alone in 1904) says: born in Sorrento, Italy. I tried to look for records in Sorrento but nothing after 1865. Any idea how I can get these records? I wrote a few parishes but they told me that due to covid they have very few workers and they are doing the every day work. I would appreciate any help on this matter.

There are no records online for most of Napoli province after 1865. There are some 1908-1915 records available at FamilySearch but for anything else you will need to contact the comune of Sorrento directly:

Hi Claudia, saw your post and was surprised to see Castellammare di Stabia mentioned. Many of my relatives come from there as well. Any Patalanos or DiMaios in your tree? Karen

I looked in the catalog, also historical images on FamilySearch and also at Antenati website. You are correct, no records of births for that time period online. That is good you were able to write the parishes as that is your best bet, but will probably have to wait till Covid shut down ends and things get back to normal. You may or not be aware that the research Wiki on FS has lots of good tips on how to write to the parishes in Italian. In the meantime, you may be able to find other records online from Argentina. Was he married there? Were children born there? You may be able to find more clues there. Also his immigration information to Argentina might shed more light. You may already have done this as you sound quite knowledgable in research, but thought I would offer those suggestions. Alice DiMaggio

Thank you Alice! Yes, I tried several other paths and I keep coming empty handed. I asked a cousin and she told me that one of the daughters in law hated his mother in law so when my great-grandparents passed away she took all the pictures, documents and burned everything!!! I can't believe it! Yes, my great grandfather got married in Argentina and all his children (10 in total) were born in the country. I haven't thought about looking into the children's records, that might give me some information. Thank you again for your advice!
