searching for records of my great great grandmother Marie Somerville -born sometime between 1855 to
Im trying to find records/information on my great great grandmother and her family, I know from a letter my great grandmother wrote me before she died that, her mothers name was Marie Somerville and that she met and married her husband (Eugene JeanJean) in Paris France. I know they had 6 children 2 girls and 4 boys (Madeleine, Anotre, Germaine, Lucienne, Marcelle & Raymond), and that they moved from Paris to Marseille sometime around 1900 - I know her husband (Eugene JeanJean) was born around 1860 in Metz - however I know no dates exactly except those of their daughter Madeleine who was my great grandmother and wrote this information down before her Death.

There's an Eugène Jeanjean born in Metz 25 August 1861, died in Noisy-le-Grand (Seine et Oise), i.e. near Paris 3 Novembre 1951.
Father : Eugene Jeanjean "infantenaire" (he was an infantry soldier), 30yo born in Metz Mother : Catherine Blaison, 30yo born in Vaux (Moselle), dressmaker

Seems 2 French genealogists at least worked on this Jeanjean-Blaison family.
First one gives the children and French descendants of Eugene Jeanjean and Pauline Marie Sonneville (your "Marie Somerville" real name), who was born in Estaires (North of France).
Good news & coincidence : I was born near Estaires, where I have some ancestors. I grew up in that area I know very well.

Here is the 2nd genealogist's tree. According to the Sosa numbers, it seems this person (Denise Tremeau) is a direct descendant of Eugene Jeanjean and Catherine Blaison (your Eugene's parents according to the birth cert I found out).

Finally, from her birth cert, I confirm Pauline Marie Sonneville was born in Estaires the 4th of June 1869. She was born "Grand Rue" (High Street) at her maternal grand-mother's house (widow Salomez-Delrue). Her father is a granting employee and her mother a tailor. She died in Noisy-le-Grand 28th December 1950.

wow thank you do much, iv been trying to power through with the name as written by my great grandmother when she was in her 90s so the writing was not always very sure, and because of that iv been hitting dead end after dead end, but you've saved me and made me supper excited to keep following this line.

Maybe would I suggest you engage with those 2 French genealogists. They might not answer you, notably if they are not English fluent, but who knows ? They might be very surprised discovering some overseas cousins and help you with the French side of descendants.

In an old newspaper I use to search in, I found this article in 1843 about one of your relatives death. Basically it says a body has been found in the village of Steenwerck, and identified as Louis Sonneville, 25yo from Estaires. They guess he died from apoplexia stroke, from which he suffered for a long time. I enclose both the article and the death cert.

I see in your ancestry the surname SAINT MICHEL: the probability that we are cousins is important. 😃
In the northern region of France, the geographical cradle of the surname is located in Merville.
Saint-Michel is especially the name of the parish church of Merville

So there it's a surprise! 😊
Our common ancestor is Jan SAINT-MICHEL
You descend from his son Nicolas and I from his daughter Maria Joanna
Nicolas probably died of the consequences of the epidemic of 1710 which was particularly virulent in the north of France due to the War of the Spanish Succession.
