 grandmother biers born in Toronto in Feb 1890, but her brother Mike was born 1882 in Hungary. There number on FamilySearch tree is John Biers=LRNJ-5JZ & Mary Biers =LRNJ-KDH. I am sure hoping I can finally find where in Austria/Hungary they came from they both died in early 1900's, 1910 &1906. Any help with this would be wonderful thank you Diane Delkettie

I recommend you to find immigration records first, to know his/her religious.

The immigration records sometimes contains birthplace or last residence.

I have Great grand-father declaration of intention from Jefferson county probate court and only info on it says he landed in Aug. 1881, but his son that was born Oct.1882 in Hungary and immigrated in 1884 on his declaration he does not know where in Hungary they came from because he was only two when he immigrated. I reached out to St Peters church in Toronto Ohio today to see if they have baptism records from 1890 to 1892 where my grand mother was born and her little brother john where born. I also have a document that is in old Hungarian script can anyone translate?

It starts with B and ends in -ka, but I can't figure out what's in between. It actually appears twice on the document, which theoretically should help, except between the handwriting and the very loose ideas about spelling (lakos "resident" spelled as *lakosz*, for example), I'm still coming up empty.

The Central Statistics Office Library has all of the official gazetteers up to 1913 (http://konyvtar.ksh.hu/index.php?s=kb_statisztika#kb_statisztika_helysegnevtarak), with alphabetical indexes. Doing CTRL-F for "ka" on the B page in the 1882 edition, there are 177 matches. I have not looked at every single one of those.

 

The closest in appearance I can come up with is Braszka, but that's a tiny farm (population 34, according to the 1902 edition) belonging to Szalonna(patak) in Szolnok-Doboka county, which is now Solona, Romania, so it's definitely not the right place.

 

I'm starting to wonder if the b-like thing at the beginning is actually something else. Maybe C?

I think to find your ancestors records is impossible mission because you don't know immigration date, their names, birthplace in Hungary.

But if in the loan contract the lender Maria Tencsar is Maria Jencsar very similar to Mary Jencik.

I guess that the name of the lender is Janczov or Jancsov (see the witness: Junger):

Marja is the Slavonic version of Maria. I agree that Maria Jancik/Jancek and Marja Janczov might be the same... the names are interpreted in different languages - maybe!

Based on the aboves I think that the place is on the Ukrainien part....

Budapest is the capitol of Hungary.

Diane, I recommend you to collect Jonh and Mary US or Canada naturalization certificates if they became citizens at all before their death than back to here.

But I think I provide you information where they come. (Oreszka (Ordasfalva) now Oreské, Slovkia)
