Hi - I would to find vital records for the Tarsia Cosenza area, pre-1800s.
Hi - I'm research the Oliveri / Oliviero surname and the ancestors that they have married. I know this is a common surname, but I'm particularly focused within the Calabrian region - Tarsia, Cosenza. The legend within the family is that our ancestors were once jewish and during the Inquisition period, they fled Spain (or possibly France) and settled in Italy.
Here is what I have so far:
- Ferdinando Oliveri (1889 - 1939) married Maria Giuseppa Perito (1897 - 1979)
- Ferdinando was the son of Gaetano Oliveri (b. 1837 / d. unknown). Gaetano married Maria Francesca Quaglio (b. 1852)
- Gaetano was the son of Pietro Paolo Olivero (b. 1812 / d. unknown). Pietro married Maria Gaetana Rago (b. 1815)
- Pietro Paolo was the son of Pietro Paolo da Giovanni Oliviero (b. 1760 / d. unknown). Pietro married Maria Rosa Magnavita (b. 1775 / d. unknown)
Here is a transcription of the birth act of 1812 of Pietro Paolo:
April 1812, by Pietro Paolo Oliviero which should be according to the calculations and the repetition of the names of Gaetano's father:
Was born Pietro Paolo da Giovanni Oliviero of a 52-year-old farmer who was domiciled in Tarsia in Via Timpone and Maria Rosa Magnavita of his 37-year-old wife.
That's all I have.
I am also interested in learning more about the maternal lineages too. Specifically:
- Maria Quaglio's father - Battista Colono Quaglio (b. ~1818) - Tarsia, Cosenza. His father was Paolo Quaglio, but I can't find any further information on him. His mother was Carolina Monte (no info here either)
- Maria's mother - Maria Carmela Bovino (b. ~1818) - no info on her parents.
Thank you so much for any guidance!

My advice would be to formulate a question for one piece of information you want to find and start there. When you have exhausted all avenues, formulate a question for the next thing you wish to find i.e.
What is the death date of Gaetano Oliveri?
Where was Gaetano Oliveri born?
I find that if I search for one piece of information at a time I am more able to focus.
Family Search Wiki Italy will be an invaluable resource for you as you look for available records.
I hope you find the information you are looking for.
