Possible baptism record for g-grandfather only shows a mother's name?
Antonius Laditsch, 22 Aug 1855 Ujfalu, Sopron Hungary. Record shows a mother, does that mean he was illegitimate. Not sure about the translation for the information on the record.

Relating to the above baptism, is it likely that Laditsch would be Rosalia’s maiden name? Also would sponsor, Maria Steiger, be her maiden name and might Rosalia and Maria be related? Thanks , Mary

Yes, they're definitely maiden names. Two reasons for the certainty: one, they're indicated to be single/unmarried (coelebs), so they have no married names; and two, any surname with a woman's given name was *her* name, not her husband's. A woman's married name was "Mrs. HisGiven HisFamily". You didn't just substitute her given name for his in that construction.

Laditsch is the mother's maiden name.
Steiger is the godmother's maiden name.
There is no way of telling if these two people are related are not.

Would a single woman have raised a child then? I wonder because my g-grandfather immigration papers indicate he was from Dalmatia. Though he considered himself Austrian and spoke German according to his son. And we were told he lived in Trieste and most likely left from Fiume if the passenger list is correct.
