Hello, I am trying to establish parentage for Thomas Carnes (abt. 1663 to 1735), LH5D-P1B, of New Ha
There is an AGBI entry and purported church records for another, earlier Thomas (abt. 1640 - abt. 1683), G4DK-6SK, also of New Haven. However, I have no documentation that actually establishes his existence. I do suspect that the younger Thomas was born in New Haven, but can't prove it. New Haven was founded in 1738 by three allied groups of colonists led by Rev. John Davenport, Rev. Peter Prudden and Rev. John Youngs, who emigrated from England in 1637, plus some from Massachusetts who were already in America. So, if the elder Thomas existed, he was likely a child of an original colonist. The family name Carnes does not appear on the New Haven "Fundamental Agreement". So, no record there. Jasper Cranes' signature is on the agreement and I have 30 DNA matches with Crane descendants. But, again nothing to actually make the connection. Is there someone out there who knows about early New Haven?
Does anyone have suggestions? Or, can you point me in a direction that might yield some positive results?

Alan; Have you searched the link for Connecticut on the upper right of this page? The records for the time period, early 1600s, are scant and may not exist. Sorry we can't be of more help and wish you success in your search.
