Based on the 1851 census, William was born in Scotland. https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:SG63-G1V Possibly, he and his father and mother are in the 1841 census in St Nicholas, Newcastle Upon Tyne. https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:M7WJ-WXD. William with Charles, Mary and brother James. Charles, Mary and William all born outside of Northumberland and James, age 10 in Northumberland. It looks like Charles and Mary might have been born in Ireland? Also notice the family below in the 1841 census, also from Scotland and the head of the household is a bottlemaker, same occupation as William.
